Research Problem

Yet Sri Lanka is not having this kind of platform, seekers share donation request posts here and there like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram etc. And mostly the current system that is using by the blood bank is manual system. Following points can be stated as the identified issues related to the currently prevailing system:

• Due to the absence of a centralized information management system, there have been delays while transferring blood and blood components for urgent requirements either in urban or rural areas.

• There is no proper way to store and manage information relate to blood donors. As a result of that, collecting rare and blood groups with less stock levels have become a major issue.

• As the data and information is managed in an isolated and individual manner, the storage is not managed efficiently and effectively. Once blood is collected, it needs to be preserved. There are people who don’t participate in the regular donation process because they dislike the lack of transparency on how their donation is used later on. Most of them believe the blood is being misused by blood banks and hospitals.

Considering the above mentioned issues, and after conducting a requirement analysis by visiting to both the National Blood Bank of Sri Lanka and a blood bank of a local hospital authors of this proposed project identified a reliable and more convenient solution towards addressing the issue that exists in the National Blood Transfusion System. Based on the requirement analysis it was identified that deploying a centralized blood transfusion management system would be the ideal and the most inevitable solution to overcome this issue. The proposed solution which is introduced in this proposal document would be beneficial to establish a well synchronized blood transfusion service network throughout the country and it would lift up the national blood transfusion service to a whole new level.

The rate of organ donation is relatively low because of not understanding the attitude and knowledge to commit as an organ donor. And also due to lack of knowledge and attitudes many humans lose their lives due to shortage of organs. Otherwise any human can donate healthy organs even the whole body after their death to save some other’s life.
